Below are the top three questions that we get about Pronto and our recommendations for them so that you are comfortable with and have a good first experience with Pronto™ Joint Tape.

The first is the void behind the Pronto™ Joint Tape if you are covering a gap up to 1/4 inch or if you are doing a butt joint.  Up to a 1/4inch gap you do not need to pre-fill before using Pronto.  By itself Pronto is flexible but as the layers of joint compound dry and shrink they pull the whole the system closer to the wall and tighten up.  The finished wall will be stiff.   We haven't seen any problems with these joints once they have been completely finished.

The second is about the aggressiveness of the adhesion and if it is enough to work with.  We made Pronto to be repositionable so that it is easier to work with.  The long term bond strength is supported by the joint compound coming through the perforations and securing it to the wall- like the metal corner bead.  Pronto should remove easily from the wall before the joint compound is applied. 

The third is the tendency to put too much joint compound over Pronto on the first application.  Remember that Pronto uses up to 50% less joint compound to finish and that the drying times and effects will be different.  If you put too much joint compound down on the first pass you could cause drying problems.  Seeing the yellow color of the Pronto tape through the first coat is normal.  Also, the amount of compound that goes down first will affect the "dimpled" appearance of the tape after the first coat dries.

Getting the Most from Pronto Joint Tape - Product Use Recommendations

• Roll Temperature:  50°F to 120°F
• Wall Temperature:  50°F to 120°F
• Wall Surface:  Clean and dry gypsum
• Corner Surface: Product pre-scored for easy fold Adhesive Attachment Pressure:
• Apply pressure with hand or edge of knife
• Trim & Cut: Use drywall knife or razor knife
• Two layers of joint compound are recommended to achieve desired level of finish.
• Joint Compound Compatibility: Compatible with both standard or Quick SetFire

Application Instructions for Factory Joints:

• Apply Pronto Joint Tape directly to drywall joint.

• Do not apply joint compound behind Pronto Joint Tape!

• Apply joint compound over Pronto.

• Allow joint tape compound to dry. (Pronto Joint Tape has a profile which means you'll need less joint compound - so drying times will be faster than normal.)

• As the joint compound dries it may shrink into the perforations as it self-levels. This is normal. Another coat will conceal these depressions.

• Apply another coat of joint compound to finish and allow to dry.

• Sand as needed. 

Application for Corners, Offset and Butt Joints:

• Apply Pronto Joint Tape directly to drywall.

• Do not apply joint compound behind Pronto Joint Tape!

• Apply joint compound over Pronto Joint Tape floating out from the center of the tape and covering the perforations. (Treat this application as the second coat in a typical drywall finishing process, but leave the center of the tape clean.)

• Allow joint compound to dry. (Pronto Joint Tape has a profile which means you'll need less joint compound - so drying times will be faster than normal.)

• Apply another coat of joint compound to finish, cover the center of the tape for a quality finish and allow to dry.

• Sand as needed.
